Client Quote # 77: the dentist

Before we even get into the nitty gritty of sugar…

This statement made a weird assumption that my client was eating a lot of sugar, likely an excessive amount of sugar 🤨
The dentist did not take a diet history, they did not explore what kind of sugar exists in the client’s diet, they did not know my client has an eating disorder- and that they already avoid sugar to a harmful extent and the dental erosion was possibly from purging.
But let’s get back to the fearmongering messages of sugar that’s certainly not new these days. There is nothing like talking about sugar that gets folks all riled up and fighting 🤜🤛

What exactly is sugar?

Sugar 👏 is 👏ENERGY 👏

How does it sound if we replaced that statement with “my dentist is telling me to reduce energy”. The kernel of truth from this statement likely has to do with sugar playing a role in tooth decay. My question is- why is it preferred to advise clients to manipulate their eating habits ( ah! without even knowing their eating habits) rather than provide helpful dental hygiene practices?
Why is it not preferred to advocate to our government to put fluoride into our water like many other places do as a public health service that makes it easy to protect our teeth? 🦷
Why is limiting a food that exists basically everywhere and necessary towards our survival the first-line recommendation?

I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ !?
