Client Quote # 76: who to believe
It’s hard to fully let ourselves trust anything really these days, especially with so much misinformation, hearsay and differing opinions out there, easily accessible through your family doctor, word of mouth from friends and relatives or on the internet 🗣️ It’s hard to even trust ourselves when an ED is present.
It feels impossible to cut through the noise and at this point we might feel so lost we no longer know what the end goal is 🙇🏻♀️
I invite you to take a moment and take a deep breath. Let’s slow down for a moment.
💭 What are your needs? 💭
Even if the advice is technically correct based on research (nutrition research is a whole other can of worms to talk about), if the advice does not take your unique experiences, your cues, your unique body, your capacity, and your limits into account…and if you have trouble following such advice because it ignored those things...was it really helpful advice in the first place?
Especially if the advice triggered more harmful behaviors.
So much information we see ignores the impact of social determinants of health, neurodiversity, and systematic barriers on our eating behaviors.
Instead, it brushes it off and throws the responsibility onto the individual as if we all have the same body, the same experiences, and the same privilege.
Sometimes general recommendation is helpful but it can also sometimes just be lazy practice.
A helpful practitioner will take you, the entire you, into account 💛
