Client Quote # 63: regular eating prevents binges

This was an awesome revelation that I was so happy to hear.

When we ignore our natural hunger cues and restrict ourselves throughout the day, it uses up a lot more of our mental energy than most people realize. When we reach the end of the day, we’re tired not only physically but also mentally. Society likes to tell us we “lack mental resolve” when we can’t stick to our rigid meal plans or “calorie budget”, but that is incorrect. We don’t lack mental resolve… We just don’t have enough energy- our mental energy is also finite. Unsurprisingly, after a day/week/month/year of fighting against our natural hunger cues and food preferences, the body will signal strong cravings towards high energy foods aka “comfort foods” “binge foods” “junk foods”.

Eating more during the day reassures our bodies a few important things that it wants to know: food is not scarce, and it can trust you to provide it with what it needs when it calls for it. When you eat more, you are letting your body know that you will fuel regularly and adequately. Binge eating can often be confused with lack of self-control when in fact, it is just a way your body is trying to communicate its discomfort with deprivation with you.
