Client Quote #39: intermittent fasting

Fad diets have existed throughout decades, centuries even. Keto and intermittent fasting seem to have their moment in the spotlight right now, but before them we had Paleo, Atkins, and before that there was low fat/low carb, and sprinkled in between we’ve had Weight Watchers, Master Cleanse, Dr. Bernstein, and more recently Noom..just to name a few.

It will only be a matter of time before the next big thing hits again.

It’s hard to believe in recovery, to believe in the notion that we don’t have to micromanage food and control our bodies this way when it is modeled by our environment and culture. Debunking diet myths and challenging unhelpful food beliefs is a core part of recovery. People are free to choose what they want to do, no judgment here. But before jumping on and following the bandwagon, you might be interested in getting fully informed on how and why fad diets rarely work and in many instances may cause harm before making that decision. Just because everyone is doing it and selling it, doesn’t mean that it works or that it’s the right fit for you.
