Client Quote # 74: groove

We have known that neurodiversity has a strong correlation with EDs for a while now. This autistic client described how the onset of their ED started with gaining a special interest in counting and tracking calories. Like they said, once they become interested in something, they are passionate and laser-focused in their pursuit⚡️
While they may have faced some challenges in opening up around their emotional experience with the ED, they had very clear strengths that also helped propelled their recovery.
📝 Their fondness for structure made following a meal plan more straightforward, and they were able to follow the caloric increases because expectations were precisely laid.
They still enjoyed tracking in some aspects, but without such a negative consequence on their health. Of course, it may be a longer journey of self-discovery to learn about how to walk the fine line between affirming and advocating their neurodivergence and at the same time being practical living in a neurotypical-designed society.

Hopefully not for too long though before our systems can make the necessary changes 💛
